What will the SamathaSouth centre be used for?
To provide a sense of community for those who attend
To 'nurture' the younger generation
To give those who contribute a sense of 'ownership' and identity
To build energy in one dedicated space
To give a different kind of space in which to experiment. It need not be exactly like Greenstreete; for example, it may not be necessarily monastic.
Courses and talks:
The centre could be used for days of practice, for weekends, Sunday afternoon sessions and evening courses through the week. This could be particularly useful for those with other commitments, such as work and family.
Guest speakers/teachers, including those from other traditions, would be welcome to speak and hold sessions.
It could provide a space for Abidhamma groups to meet
It could be a base for evening classes with multiple teachers rotating to share the responsibility
Easily accessible (within ~1 hour) from London, Oxford and Cambridge
As near to a train station as possible, but not more than 5 miles away
Type of property:
Outdoor space for huts and tents with possible potential to expand
Can accommodate 7 or 8 meditators overnight (perhaps by dividing rooms, using receps)
At least 1 large room to accommodate a large meeting or talk
Immediate surroundings should be considered: amenities such as nearby village hall to hire may be relevant
We need to be flexible and creative about types of property
